About Our School

Who and Where We Are

Marble Charter School (MCS) is a public, tuition-free charter school nestled in the scenic Crystal River Valley. Serving 40-50 students in grades K-8, we are located in the heart of Marble, Colorado, surrounded by the majestic Elk Mountains and the pristine White River National Forest. Our school is a vital part of the community, offering daily bus service to Marble, Redstone, Carbondale, and surrounding areas. We make the most of our stunning natural surroundings year-round.

At MCS, we believe in fostering a personalized, student-centered approach to learning. We offer multi-age classrooms, where students engage in a collaborative, inclusive environment. Our school is divided into three grade bands: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Kindergartners join the K-2 classroom, benefiting from integrated activities that honor their developmental stage while providing mentorship opportunities with older students. The older children thrive as role models, reinforcing positive behaviors and leadership skills.

With a low student-to-teacher ratio, our dedicated teachers are able to get to know each child individually, providing tailored support and challenges to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Our curriculum includes direct instruction in core subjects like reading, writing and math, complemented by project-based and experiential learning that encourages creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

We are passionate about learning in the great outdoors. All students participate in Outdoor Education trips several times a year, taking full advantage of our mountain environment and neighboring parks and open spaces.  As an Official Snow School, we engage in snow science activities and snowshoe, ski, ice skate, and sled in and around Marble and the Roaring Fork Valley. When the weather warms, students explore local trails, use our pond, lake, and streams as natural science labs, and draw inspiration from nature for art and writing projects. These hands-on experiences help our students connect to the world around them while fostering a lifelong love of learning and exploration.
